HEARST, Ont. — Three people were killed Saturday evening in a tragic two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 west of Hearst, prompting lengthy road closures and an ongoing investigation by Ontario Provincial Police.
The victims have been identified as Darrell Taylor, Raeanne Wesley, and Aaron Wesley, according to family members. The crash occurred as the trio was traveling home from a funeral in Aroland First Nation, where they had attended services for a late uncle.
Family members confirmed that Taylor was returning home with his sister, Raeanne Wesley, and her partner, Aaron, when the fatal collision occurred. The crash has sent shockwaves through their family and communities, with loved ones describing the loss as devastating and sudden.
“It is with great sadness and sorrow that my wife Carrie’s brother, Darrell Taylor, and her sister Raeanne Wesley and Raeanne’s boyfriend Aaron tragically lost their lives,” a family member wrote in a public statement. “Please pray for my wife, our precious mother Zelda, and our entire family during this unimaginable time.”
Police say the collision involved an SUV and a transport truck. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but all three occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead. No additional details about the cause of the crash have been released as the investigation continues.
As of Sunday morning, Highway 11 remains closed between Longlac and Kapuskasing, while Highway 631 is also closed between Hornepayne and Highway 11, according to provincial officials. There is no emergency detour in place, and the closures are expected to remain in effect for an extended period while investigators work at the scene.
Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
The deaths of Taylor, Wesley, and Wesley have sparked an outpouring of condolences, with community members expressing sympathy for their mother Zelda, Raeanne’s partner Jai, and the extended families affected by the tragedy.
